Irmijati Rachmi Nurbahar recently retired as a civil servant in the Directorate General of Plantations, the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture, with her last position as Director of Annual and Cash Crops. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from IPB University in the Department of Agricultural Product Technology, then continued her master’s degree at the Agricultural Economics Study Program at Purdue University and finished in 1991. During her nearly 35 years of service in the Ministry of Agriculture, she contributed to the formulation of the strategic policies of the Directorate General of Plantations; drafting regulations on the plantation sector including Law Number 39 of 2014 concerning Plantations; drafting regulations related to the replanting of oil palm plantation owned by smallholders; and the development of institutional empowerment initiatives for smallholders.
