John holds a PhD in Environment from the Australian National University and a Master of Environmental Management from the University of New South Wales. He has been providing administrative and institutional support to for profit and non-profit organisations and research initiatives since 1999. Since 2007, he has been working as a researcher, focusing on the governance of natural resources and rural livelihoods. From 2007 until 2010, he worked with the Center for International Forestry Research on the Landscape Mosaics project, a collaborative project with the World Agroforestry Centre. In 2011, he began his doctoral thesis, which involved studying rural livelihoods and decision-making of farmers and fishers living in a coastal landscape in Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia, which was completed in March, 2017. Since 2012, he has been supporting Earth Innovation Institute’s Indonesia program through providing research, analytical and editorial support. Currently, he is a Research Associate with Earth Innovation’s Indonesian program and manages the Research and Development unit at Institut Penelitian Inovasi Bumi (INOBU), Earth Innovation’s sister organization in Indonesia.
