Sustainable Palm Oil for Smallholders Welfare
Since 2013, Institut Penelitian Inovasi Bumi (INOBU) and Earth Innovation Institute have collaborated with the Central Kalimantan government to ensure the implementation of Provincial Government Regulation No. 5/2011 regarding Sustainable Plantation Development and the Roadmap for Low Emission Rural Development to Increase Productivity and Eradicate Poverty. This collaboration aims to support Central Kalimantan move towards sustainable palm oil production, which is fair and respects the rights of indigenous people. Furthermore, the partnership aims to ensure that all palm oil sourced from the province will be produced sustainable and legally certified.
One of the main requirements for sustainable palm oil is empowering independent oil palm smallholders. To support the empowerment of these farmers, three districts in Central Kalimantan have been selected as the pilot districts for the smallholder empowerment program, namely Kotawaringin Barat, Seruyan and Gunung Mas.
