Jurisdictional Learning Exchange (Sponsored by TNC)
The Nature Conservancy (TNC) sponsors this Jurisdictional Learning Exchange on “Enhancing Partnerships for Jurisdictional Green Development.” East Kalimantan Province (Indonesia), the State of Pará (Brazil), and the Region of San Martin (Peru) are valuable microcosms of the world’s sustainable development challenges. The growth of the economy and the well-being of the people in the three jurisdictions are inextricably linked to the health of tropical forest landscapes. In each jurisdiction, there is a need to balance economic development objectives with the objectives to improve the wellbeing of local and indigenous people and safeguard the forest ecosystem services upon which society depends.
Those three GCF jurisdictions have become leaders among tropical forest countries working to accelerate their transitions toward more sustainable models of development. Though different in many ways, they employed some similar approaches to building partnerships for jurisdictional green development. These included strengthening cross-sectoral leadership networks in the jurisdiction, developing holistic goals and visions of green development, using formal agreements to clarify commitments and roles and improve accountability, linking various landscape programs to the overall sustainable landscapes efforts, and developing institutions responsible for ensuring holistic results. Organized in the format of a talk show, this panel will explore how a high-forest cover, land-use intensive subnational economy can be transformed into a prosperous, sustainable, low-deforestation economy through collaboration and partnerships among multi stakeholders. This Exchange features distinguished speakers from the three jurisdictions: Neisser Bartra (Peru), Simão Jatene (Brazil), Nurul M. Karim (East Kalimantan), Daddy Ruhiyat (East Kalimantan), and will be moderated by Herlina Hartanto (TNC).
