Jurisdictional Learning Exchange (sponsored by SICCR-TAC EU)
The Jurisdictional Learning Exchange: Financing Community Driven Conservation and REDD+ is sponsored by SICCR-TAC EU and is designed as a platform for sharing experiences in promoting the use of public funds for forest conservation. This Exchange features GCF Member governments of Aceh, North Kalimantan, Acre, and Ucayali.Significant amounts of public funds could be allocated for environmental protection with right incentives and policy frame. Many decisions can be made at the local level. The event will discuss the significant role of district and village governments in incentivising the sustainable land use and forest conservation. Provincial level policies can help to mainstream the good practises emerging from the subnational level.
Moderated by Victor Chandrawira, the exchange will begin with an introduction to the use of public funds for conservation (Dr. Daniel Nepstad, EII (TBC). Bringing the Brazilian experience to the discussion, Alberto Tavares (President of the Environmental Services Development Company of Acre) will share the Acre experience in supporting low-carbon enterprise. This Exchange will further be enriched by insights from Mexico: Luis Briceno (GM, Government of Ucayali) will discuss the use of subnational development funds in Ucayali, Mexico. To wrap up the cross-jurisdictional exchange, delegates from Aceh, Indonesia, will discuss the province’s bottom up approach to mainstreaming best practices through provincial planning. Through this rich exchange of perspectives and experiences, this exchange seeks to map a way forward on better utilization of public funds for forest conservation.
